hi welcome to the Friendship Ninth Grade Center parent information meeting this is mrs. Hudgins I am the counselor ever at the Ninth Grade Center I also presented at all of the parent meeting so I will present the AC information that was given face-to-face for anyone who was unable to attend the goals from this PowerPoint are for parents and students spoke to learn about endorsements what about the 9th grade classes that are offered and to learn about for your plans I also want to say I understand that it's going to be a lot of information and overwhelming but please know that I will be here to answer questions as you have on your middle school town we'll also have some answers to questions if y'all need them and we will help you through this process to make it as easy as possible the first thing I want to share is friendship Ninth Grade Center is having a Horse Fair this year this will be held on February 18th from 6 to 8 p.m. on last name so be on the lookout for those we will post it on social media it'll be a lot like these parent meetings where you'll have to attend based on last name is it'll be all three Middle School's coming together last name just like the parent meeting sure will allow one student and one parent or guardian and students and parents are invited to come sooner you can visit with teachers you can ask why you can see what's offered and so you'll have that opportunity to visit with him and see what's up for when we start scheduling you'll know what you are I will also be an 8th Grade Campus just like this one but I will give them the information so that they have a chance to hear it in case they also miss the parent meeting and so they will come home with some information so I will be at SMS on February 16th Terra Vista on February 18th and Heritage on February 22nd I will be doing this during there enrichment time the students at this meeting on 2022 course guide this is a very important information on all the classes offered from 9th grade all the way up to senior year and so as your scheduling each year on picking classes shows each classic is a description of each class it also goes over grading policy and pre AP and honors and Chichi and what's weighted and what's not so much information guide you through the process of scheduling and just all things high school so this is a very important guide so be on the lookout for those before I show up I don't know if they will take it before these it's what they will for sure take it before March when we start scheduling a career interest inventory interest inventory will help them for students who just have no idea already know but this isn't going to help help him with some other decisions you also have a schedule meeting in the mail about this and you will sit down with a member of the district to counselor from around the district or representative from the district and they will help you and your students endorsement for select the three classes and make a 4-year plan understand that your student is in 8th grade and that things definitely will change so everything we do we do and pencil and weed with the understanding that changes can be made so we want that to take some of the stress off of parents and students and in displaying process to understand that we're not we're not glue in you to anything you decide now you're not stuck forever you can make changes us necessary for students who are they get into their upper classes endorsement but we do understand would you allow those rescheduling dates March 4th we will be at SMS March 8th we will be at at HMS March 9th will be at teravista and from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. or 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on this side you can see the website signupgenius.com and there's a search by email and you go by a baker at friendship. Us and it will take you to the eighth grade parents guide there's also a QR code on the letters that went home this QR code is also up on social media Pages you to sign up for a time to come sit send an SMS parent for some reason March 4th does not work for you that is okay that works for you or you can come in on the 11th at the Ninth Grade Center this is very important this meeting is where your kid gets to pick their classes and their endorsement and so please make sure you sign up if you need help signing up call The Ninth Grade Center and one of the secretaries that front what is an endorsement mrs. this is a very important question for parents to understand and for students to understand this is a high school graduation balance all incoming 9th graders in any question that we get is my student pick to endorsements for incoming 9th graders we only select one but we're not saying you cannot pursue to endorsements what is you want and by senior year we all the endorsements Matt on the transcript so you absolutely can pursue more than one endorsement but for now we will just select one and then like I said your student can pursue as they are Define endorsements are still in business and industry public services Arts and Humanities and multidisciplinary studies science engineering and Mathematics also in the course guide that you will get so definitely take a look at that and we'll go over each one business and industry though the biggest ones we have on our there are Agriculture and our Hospitality Auto Tech Construction Tech culinary arts any of our computer program classes entrepreneurship business and industry public service and law enforcement or in interested in counseling and Child Services Arts and Humanities is great for our students who want to do 4 years of a fine art and they're really wanting to focus on or choir or tiene to Arts and Humanities or if they'll of social studies and want to take for social studies or if they want to make that kind of their primary study what a multi-disciplinary is great for our students who just don't just don't know yet these kiddos are in 8th grade expect them all to have their entire life I understand that some of them are still I figure what they want to do out until he's a great endorsement that can try out some different classes and figure out where and what their interests are and what they want to do after high school here the 9th Grade Center and at the high school we have block scheduling so your kid will your students will select a classes for 9th grade and however they only go to four classes per day we have a blue day which is periods 1 through 4 gol de which is periods 5 through 8 this is our normal school day and then in the morning Tuesday through Friday 8:10 to 8:50 so 40 minutes a day your student can go Any teacher they need help with and this is my corrections if they were absent and need additional help on getting her homework assignment that I just really struggled with what does sartorial. Is. It is not meant to be a discipline time is the additional help that they need we don't have to go. We have late start Monday's so we start at 9:20 on those Mondays I'm in this is so that the teachers have additional time to plan with her Department which is why I'd tutorials are not offered on those dates so we're going to talk about 9th grade courses there some classes that everybody has to take and then there's a electives and this is based on the student's endorsement and what their goals are for high school post secondary so these are graduation requirements before they graduate high school so everybody has to have four years of being Rush 4 years of math 4 years of science I'm social studies really depends on the endorsement is three or four multidisciplinary requires for social studies require 3 however they try to get the four social studies if they have room just because we're seeing that there's still a lot of universities and colleges that want to see this we do understand summer athletes that are trying to also meet an endorsement it's harder to get the 4th counselors will definitely work with him make sure they get every student has to have two credits of a foreign language and this is of the same language so it's not a year Spanish and Latin it's 2 years of the same language so we always say that if you start Spanish 1 in 8th grade you need to get Spanish to a 9th grade and have that foreign language done if you want to attempt a second foreign language after that you can everybody has to have a credit of PE one credit of Fine Arts in one credit of dim this is business Information Management this is a computer class that teaches all about me that teaches Microsoft Office every bit of speech 5 and 1/2 credits endorsement so here's kind of what we offer for a required electives so for our foreign language we have three languages Spanish Latin and sign language and like I said if you started Spanish and 8th grade you need to finish it at the 9th Latin sign language we have less offerings section so it's definitely important that's the language to have a backup just in case it fills up some Fine Arts Theater technical theater band choir dance in Florida sinus through the ACT apartment this is offered in 10 through 12 are PE credits you can obviously take as a class any of our athletic teams Dance Moms will also get you a credit misting fan is also to get that to eat credit classes we offer to allow students to get their speech credit we have professional communication this is just a basic speech class debate we have a communication and marketing Aldi's will get a students there soon credit I'm the only one of those that are offered at the Ninth Grade Center is debate but I'm also students just passionate about being on the debate team and then we have our bam class or computer class that is required for graduation these are the elective options that are offered over here at the 9th Grade Center in this is that the course Fair is you come along horse guy that I told you your suits will be coming home this is where you're going to really get to learn about these electives and what those teachers offer in each class but we have debate yearbook principles of Agriculture principles of applied engineering audio video production one this has audio videos a lot like the broadcasting class at the kiddos had offered in Middle School principles of business marketing and finance principles of Health Science and medical terminology these are both semester classes that must be paired together principles of manufacturing this class has the introduction to automotive and construction and then we have interpersonal studies are both semester classes that have to be paired together as well and so I guess I said you can look through the course guide and figure out what each of these class offers to our course call her sport option so this is where we tend to get the most questions a sports because it looks different than it did in Middle School sew in Middle School a student could take Athletics your girl and they went into their athletic class here at the high school it's no longer called Athletics is it is by Sport and the student has to make the team and they have to make the team so it is very crucial that if you're signing up for schedule next year and your kid has never played volleyball and you're putting volleyball on the schedule or any other sport you may end up having to pick some backup classes because you do have to go through a tryout process and make the team so we definitely we can try out but if you've never played the sport it might be a safer shun to put two other electives down on the schedule and then if you make the team we can put it on at that time if you wait until August 4th at first couple weeks of school Powerball or they didn't to tryouts when they were supposed to been a long time coming up with some frustration because summer classes have filled up the fool options that they had when they say March here are two sample schedules that I will kind of go through so this schedule right here the Athletics are banned English Math Science Social Studies and I have three classes left so you're fine art credit you can do your credit or an elected towards your endorsement so if your student knows what they want to do then that's where they would put in that introduction class to get them going on their endorsement this schedule over here is for students that aren't classes that you have to take and then you have 3 elective so two of these electives need to be required elective for graduation but I can be fine arts or they can do their electives so if they are a multi-disciplinary they don't know what they want to do required electives out of the way now question we get is can my student do athletics and and and a question is absolutely yes you would have your double loft athletic and then we would single book bag so Pam has approved this so you it would take up your three electives so you would but she just wouldn't be able to take that introduction person who were wanting to do that weak at the beginning of the semester to change schedule if your student in March April really even she decides to schedule their to change their schedule and email starmaster schedules based on these Selections in the spring change their schedule a lot of town so schedule art possible do two classes filling up electus filling up and so it is very important that if you reach out to me in the spring and it's an easy way to August listen to the schedules can be changed you get one opportunity to change schedules I can't I kid can't just come in and say I want to drop art and then 2 days later come in and say nevermind I change your mind but they're in the only schedule changes we allow at any time in the school year is if a student gets in an advanced class and it's too hard or they're just not successful you allow them to drop down to a regular class at any time permission to request it is fast like I said to have those courses in a schedule before August registration registration hit-making my schedule changes are much more difficult to request teachers class periods or lunch time after parents meeting in March we will sit down with you and work on a 4-year plan and we will walk you through this process so please no while it looks like a lot of information work in a walk each person through this it's very easy with printed on there with everybody has to have which I showed you earlier you have to have for english's for Mass your Spore science has your social study credits and then down at the bottom are the required classes you're two years of a foreign and then your endorsement elective so we will help fill this out for you what we want you to do between now and March when we sit down and do scheduling with you as sister talking to your student about what they like to do what they're good at what careers are they interested in post-secondary and what goals they have we don't want this to be something that causes stress we just want this to be student start thinking about now so that once we sit down with you and March they kind of have an idea look at that course guide come to the course there and figure out what we offer and what interest your kids so that they kind of have an idea of what they want to do like I said everyone takes for English it everyone takes more mass what she start with a ninth grade depends on what you did in 8th grade so if you took Algebra 1 in 8th grade you would start with geometry 9th if an eighth grade you just did eighth grade math or pre-algebra next year in 9th grade algebra 1 it's important to understand the difference between pre-algebra everybody has to do for Sciences next your 9th grader student will have two choices IPC or biology as you can see you can come and see the pathways for each one so the IPC which is integrated physics and chemistry they would take I have to take biology then they would take chemistry then an advanced science for 12th grade year so great for our students who want to go into the medical track they need to take biology if you're an engineering student if you're on that stem endorsement you're available your Junior and Senior year the strongest science student and you want to get a good foundation social studies endorsement in 9th grade World Geography world history and AP Human Geography parents to understand human geography this is a college-level class at the end of the year they take an AP Exam May if they score high enough they can receive college credit only if they score well on that exam the expectations the Reedy found that is involved in human geography is a much higher level than just make sure you are signed up for that class integrate class students are very successful if you don't want to do that when you can do geography or history and you'll take your social studies for language like I said speak who is currently in Spanish there are four required electives like I went over earlier you bought them a fine-art credit a speech credit and if he has also offered in a very fast-paced online summer course you have to apply for this this the marks we will have these applications available they will be due in April and but they must be enrolled in a CTE course or double blocked Athletics or band there. online on the website you could find an shs career Pathways booklet business the guy to all endorsement Pathways this will help parents and students cheer to meet the students chosen endorsement less suggested recommended are based on some resources to help on the 9th grade websites which is where you found this PowerPoint there's also a bunch of information for incoming 9th graders and then down here is the start principal mr. Burris and mrs. Taylor cartoon assistant principals in me Miss Hudgens the school counselor so if you have any questions or concerns thank you
