It took extra time to decide the winner of the 2018 Gene Messer Shootout. Unfortunately for the Tigers, the final basket and the championship went the way of South Oak Cliff.
The Tigers and Bears fought back-and-forth in the championship game only to have the two teams tied at 67 at the end of regulation. SOC outscored FHS seven to five in the extra frame to claim the tourney title.
The championship did not take away from what was a successful weekend of basketball for the Tigers. The team made their way to the tourney’s title game with three solid wins over Plainview, El Paso Eastwood and Rockwall Heath.
Ja’Marqus Lewis and Javier Rios were both named to the Gene Messer All-Tournament Team.
FHS (7-2) returns to the court Tuesday at Seminole before heading to the Keller Tournament this weekend.
