Skyler Newsome’s two-yard touchdown run with less than a minute to play pushed Frenship’s back-and-forth contest with Midland High into overtime on Friday night, but unfortunately the Bulldogs would rally to score the game-winner in extra time and pull out the victory 34-28.
After falling behind 14-0 in the second quarter, FHS started the march back into the contest thanks to a Jess Hoel 53-yard touchdown strike to Drew Hocutt. Hocutt’s fourth TD grab of the year pulled the Tigers within 14-7 at halftime.
A William Bayouth score to open the second half pulled the game even at 14 at the 8:31 mark of the third quarter, and the two teams would trade touchdowns throughout the rest of regulation.
Early in the fourth quarter, Colton Brown caught his first touchdown of the season from two yards out to tie the game at 21. Newsome’s late TD scamper tied the game up again at 28.
Hoel was 17 of 30 passing for 160 yards and two touchdowns and added 53 rushing.
FHS (3-4, 0-2) returns home this week to host the Odessa High Bronchos. Kickoff from Peoples Bank Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m.
