Wet conditions and a muddy running surface did not slow down the Frenship cross county teams during their first meet of the season last Saturday as 22 Tiger runners set personal record times and helped lead the team to strong finishes at the Lubbock ISD Invitational at Mae Simmons Park.
The varsity girls claimed a fifth-place team finish while the varsity boys finished in eighth place out of 25 teams. Both JV teams captured third-place finishes.
Individually, Zach Martinez was a medalist after running the three-mile course in a time of 17:29. Morgan Reed medaled for the girls after completing the race in a time of 22:18.
Josiah Rodriguez, Jacob Alveraz and Collin Turley were medalist for the JV boys while Kaylee Moore, Abigal Oclare and Kimberly Rasmussen won medals for the JV girls.
The early success and confidence for the runners provide a springboard for future achievement under first-year head coach Amanda Kirkpatrick.
The team competes this Saturday at the Tascosa Rebel Run in Amarillo.
