On Wednesday, students at the FHS Ninth Grade Center took part in the first phase of Fish Camp. Students cycled through stations where they learned about the expectations on their campus, listened to a presentation about available technology, and set goals for their freshman year during an outdoor activity.

Fish Camp is traditionally a one-time orientation event where 9th graders learn about their campus expectations, Frenship traditions and what it means to be a Tiger. This year, the staff at the NGC are integrating the Fish Camp experience throughout the school year. The program will now consist of the orientation day, Rachel’s Challenge, activities dispersed throughout the year and daily reminders about student responsibilities.

“We found that some kids were missing the experience when we made it a one-time activity,” said NGC Principal Heath Simpson. “During Fish Camp, students learn about technology, hear from the counselors, learn about the high school experience, and have a lot of fun. We want all of our students to know the traditions and procedures, and spacing the program throughout the year will help reach more students.”
