Frenship ISD is proud to announce Roxanne Curiel as the Head Softball Coach for Frenship Memorial High School. With a strong background in athletics, education, and a personal connection to the district, Coach Curiel brings heart, experience, and passion to this new leadership role.
Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Curiel earned her undergraduate degree in Exercise and Sports Science from Lubbock Christian University, where she played softball for the Chaps all four years. During her time at LCU, she also gained experience as an assistant coach and worked under the Sports Information Director. She is currently pursuing her Master’s in Sports Management from Texas Tech University.
Curiel has spent the last seven years in education, including four years at Frenship’s Ninth Grade Center, where she has served as a science teacher and assistant coach for both volleyball and softball. Her coaching journey began in Corpus Christi, where she served as the Head Softball Coach at West Oso and later returned to her alma mater, Tuloso-Midway, to continue teaching and coaching.
Coach Curiel’s decision to join the Frenship Family was deeply personal.
“My late cousin, Jericho Garcia, graduated from Frenship High School in 2018. He often spoke with admiration about the incredible teachers and coaches who shaped his experience as a Tiger. While he would unfortunately end up passing a few months after graduation, the impact and love he had for others was profound. When the opportunity arose to return to Lubbock and be part of a team that could impact students the way Jericho had been impacted, I knew I had to take it. I strive each day to help make Frenship the kind of place he remembered so fondly and to honor his legacy through my work.”
Coach Curiel is passionate about student development and is ready to embrace this new chapter as head coach.
“I’m thrilled for the opportunity to build a softball program from the ground up—one that allows our student-athletes to create their own unique legacies,” said Coach Curiel. “I am equally excited to build new relationships with our student-athletes and other fellow Panther staff members, bring the qualities of the Frenship Family to Memorial High School.”
Reflecting on her time at Frenship so far, Coach Curiel shared her gratitude.
“Being part of the Frenship Family has truly been one of the greatest blessings of my life. Over the past four years, I’ve formed lifelong friendships and found mentors who have shaped me not only as a teacher and coach but as a person. I’m grateful for the journey and excited for what’s to come,” said Coach Curiel.
Frenship ISD is proud to welcome Coach Curiel to this new role and is excited to see the legacy she will help build at Frenship Memorial High School.
