In the FFA, there is no off-season. As stock shows come to a close, FFA members simply switch gears and move into the CDE season.
Career Development Events, also known as CDEs, build on what is learned in agricultural classes and encourage members to put their knowledge into practice. These events are designed to help a member prepare for a career in agriculture by testing and challenging the student's technical, leadership, interpersonal, and teamwork skills as well as their knowledge of the subject matter. CDEs answer the question, "When will I use this knowledge in the real world?”
Frenship FFA kicked off the CDE season with a strong showing as the Tractor Tech team placed 8th in the state at the Houston Stock Show and Rodeo. Other teams followed with weeks of hard work, putting in extra hours beyond the classroom and participating in invitational contests across the state to prepare for their own state-qualifying events.
That hard work paid off this past weekend at the Area 1 Career Development Events Contest, where eight Frenship FFA teams earned spots at the state level. The teams will compete in the Texas FFA State CDEs held at four universities: April 23 at Tarleton State University, April 24 at Sam Houston State University, April 25 at Texas A&M University, and May 3 at Texas Tech University.
