Frenship High School Theatre has qualified for the regional round of the One Act Play season after another impressive showing at the Area Competition. Competing against six of the region’s top teams, Frenship not only secured their advancement but also earned five individual awards.
The group’s production of Silent Sky tells the true story of Henrietta Leavitt, an early 1900s astronomer who worked at Harvard as a human computer. Despite being denied access to the telescope, she defied limitations and made groundbreaking discoveries about Cepheid stars—insights that transformed the field of astronomy. As Leavitt pursues her passion, her relationships with family, colleagues, and love interest Peter Shaw are tested. Silent Sky is a moving tale of determination, discovery, and the human connections that make life under the vast sky beautiful and timeless.
Theatre Director Tre John praised the team’s efforts, calling it their best performance yet.
“I am beyond proud of the work these students have done this One Act Play season,” said John. “I thought that the scenes we worked between Bi-district and Area were the best they've ever been.”
In the UIL One Act Play Texas A Division, 262 schools were registered. With their advancement to regionals, Frenship High School now ranks among the top 24 teams in the state. This achievement reflects the team’s relentless dedication, countless hours of rehearsal, and constant drive to perfect their craft.
The team’s impressive performance at the Area Competition also earned several individual honors. Jacen Phillips was named Outstanding Technician, while Abby Cluff and Raymond Drake Cagle earned Honorable Mention All-Star Cast distinctions. Additionally, Jaida Christy and Rylee Whipkey were recognized as All-Star Cast members for their exceptional performances.
John emphasized that this One Act Play team is a group of remarkable individuals both on and off the stage.
“I have had so many compliments from contest managers and staff about how friendly, well-mannered, and respectful these students are,” said John. “They make a positive impact on the people around them everywhere we go.”
The Frenship One Act Play season continues next week at Prosper Rock Hill High School, where the team will face another round of tough competition with hopes of securing a spot at the State Competition.
Good luck, Tigers!
