As the fall semester comes to a close, Frenship High School Esports wraps up the season with two teams and an individual advancing to the state competition. The Frenship competitors saw early success this season and continued to refine their skills throughout the semester.  

The Varsity Rocket League team finished the season ranked 10th in the state, while the Super Smash Bros team secured 7th place. The Varsity Overwatch team placed 4th overall out of 50+ teams across Texas, automatically qualifying for the state competition. 

The season concluded with the Hub City Tournament at Lubbock Christian University, which hosted 26 teams for Overwatch, Fortnite, and Rocket League and 23 individual competitors in the Super Smash Bros event. 

At the final tournament, the Frenship Varsity Rocket League Team solidified their place in the state tournament by winning their event. Additionally, senior Adrian Grady claimed a major victory in the Super Smash event.  

In the finals, Grady faced one of the top Super Smash players in the state, a competitor with an undefeated tournament record. After losing to him in the first round, Grady made an incredible comeback, defeating him in back-to-back matches to clinch the champion title and secure his spot in the state tournament. 

Esports Coach Brain Singletary stated the students competed extremely well throughout the season and at the Hub City Tournament and even drew some interest from college esport programs.  

“I was beyond proud of our players,” said Singletary. “They performed above and beyond. They also received multiple requests from college teams to talk to them about joining their programs.” 

The state Esport competitors plan to hit the ground running after the winter break as they prepare for the state tournament in May at Baylor University. Additionally, Frenship Esports will host a 12-hour lock-in stream in the spring to raise money for UMC Children's Miracle Network. Keep an eye on the Frenship ISD Facebook page for more details.
