Frenship High School Teacher Honored as LCU Distinguished Educator

Out of 16 submissions, one from each Frenship ISD campus, Holloway was named the overall Frenship ISD winner for the LCU Distinguished Educator award. He was surprised with the news during a special announcement in front of the entire school at a pep rally.

“I was overwhelmed with a mix of emotions and thoughts. It came as a complete surprise. I wasn’t expecting any recognition of this kind, and I was genuinely surprised to hear my name when Mr. Hernandez announced the nomination,” said Holloway. “I felt incredibly grateful for the recognition and the support of my colleagues and administrators.  It was a humbling experience to be nominated especially when there are so many outstanding educators in our district.”

LCU presents this award annually to remarkable educators across Lubbock County in recognition of their diligent efforts in educating tomorrow’s generations and as encouragement for the tangible impact they make through the long hours and dedicated commitment to their students.

With 17 years in education, 11 of those years at Frenship High School, Holloway has undoubtedly impacted thousands of students, inspiring them to find their passion and love for the STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). He currently serves as the FHS Iron “Fe” Tigers Robotics Coach and teaches courses in Robotics, Engineering Design, and Problem Solving, Principals of Applied Engineering, and Scientific Research and Design.

“My absolute favorite thing about teaching is the opportunity to delve into the exciting world of STEM with my students. I love exploring new concepts, experimenting with innovative technologies, and watching my students' eyes light up as they discover the wonders of science and engineering,” said Holloway. “And it's doubly rewarding to share this passion with my peers and colleagues, collaborating and learning together as we strive to create engaging and effective STEM learning experiences."

Holloway’s service and positive impact goes well beyond the classroom. He coordinates the Lubbock-B FIRST Tech Challenge League events and championships for robotics, serves as the FHS Instructional Technology Champion, and volunteers with the Scouts of America Troop #157 where he’s helped several Frenship students accomplish their Eagle Scout rank, including his son Riley.

“His mentorship has inspired so many kids, not just for competitions, but by sparking a love for problem-solving and innovation,” said Greg Hernandez, Frenship High School Principal. “Mr. Holloway’s commitment to both his students and colleagues is truly something special. He always goes the extra mile, whether it’s helping a student with a project or supporting a fellow teacher. His positive influence on our school is undeniable, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of the Distinguished Educator Award.”

Holloway will now be in the running against the other area Distinguished Educators for LCU’s top recognition, the Excellence in Teaching Award. The award winner will be announced during a special ceremony in April. In addition to earning the prestigious title, the winner will also receive $1,000.

“Being nominated for the LCU Distinguished Educator Award is an incredible honor.  It means my work is being recognized and valued by my peers, my school, and the educational community,” said Holloway. “I am deeply grateful for the support I’ve received throughout my career, and I am excited to continue making a positive impact on the lives of my students and colleagues.”
