Frenship High School Senior Receives National ROTC Scholarship

This past Tuesday morning Peyton McCloud, a Frenship High School senior, was greeted with a big surprise in his English class. Members from the Texas Tech Reserve Officers' Training Corps and his family were excited to present McCloud with the Army National Scholarship.

George Hampton, Recruiting Operations Officer at Texas Tech for the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) shares that the Army National Scholarship is a very high honor to receive.

“It’s an outstanding honor to receive this scholarship because the competition this year was massive,” said Officer Hampton. “Peyton competed against over 40,000 students across the nation.”

The Army National Scholarship presented to McCloud totaled $67,224. McCloud feels very grateful and blessed to be selected as a recipient. This scholarship will help support him financially in college.

“It means a lot to me, it will be a way for me to go through college without having to spend too much money, it will also help pave my way to go to the Army,” said Peyton McCloud.

The Army ROTC offers mentorship, shadowing opportunities, and real-world leadership training while in college. Officer Hampton says that McCloud already has strong leadership qualities inside and outside of the classroom.

“His leadership, GPA, physical fitness, and extracurricular activities, helped him earn this scholarship.”

With the Army National Scholarship, McCloud will have the opportunity to graduate college with a guaranteed career as an Army Officer.

Congratulations, Peyton McCloud!
