Jesenia Rosillo went through the dual language program in elementary, middle school, and high school. As part of the requirements to earn the seal, she has taken academic courses in Spanish such as science and social studies. 

Earning this seal means Rosillo is both bilingual and biliterate, a talent very few high school students have accomplished. Not only is this considered a huge award, but this Seal of Biliteracy will now open doors and provide more opportunities both academically and in their future careers. 

Senon Cruz, the Frenship Coordinator of Bilingual/ESL believes that this program is highly beneficial for students. 

“Being Bilingual is additive not subtractive and knowing more than one language makes students more marketable in the workforce as well as qualify for more scholarships than a student who only knows one language,” said Cruz. 

After graduation, Rosillo plans on attending South Plains College and majoring in cosmetology. 

As of now, ten students have earned the seal of biliteracy here at Frenship. This will be the last year of having a small group of students earning the seal of biliteracy. Beginning in the 2024 - 2025 school year and moving forward, there will be more than 10 students on the bilingual pathway attaining the seal of biliteracy if they continue the bilingual pathway until graduation. 

“I am very proud of our students and parents - this is a team effort. I’m looking forward to our first big seal of biliteracy class in 2024 – 2025,” said Cruz.
