Ninth Grade Center Student Council Receives State Award

At the Frenship High School Ninth Grade Center pride for Frenship runs deep in the student body. The student council regularly hosts activities to celebrate school spirit and inspire camaraderie among the students and staff.

Throughout the year, the NGC student council had 13 recorded activities that fall under the Pride and Patriotism section of the Texas Association of Student Councils. This dedication to school spirit earned the council recognition for its outstanding program in Pride and Patriotism.

While some of the programs were coordinated with the Frenship High School student council for many of the dress-up days, the NGC Student Council officers planned many of their own. Outside of spreading school spirit, the council helped celebrate the custodians for their appreciation day and recognized outstanding staff throughout the year.

Berklee Bayse, the student council advisor at NGC, said the team works hard throughout the year to be a light on their campus.

“I could not be prouder of my students,” said Berklee Bayse. “Student Council would not be what it has been this year without them. I have been so blessed to work with students that have a passion for serving their school and community. My officers have really stepped up and been leaders in all aspects of student life.”

The council strives to involve students in the school and the community. Back in October, the students set up a coat drive to collect donations that benefited Foster a Life. For Christmas, the student council members made and gifted 30 blankets to Angel Tree students. Additionally, the group recently raised over $4,400 for the Children’s Miracle Network.

Bayse stated that the teachers and administrators at the Ninth Grade Center have been so supportive of the ideas the council came up with and the projects they put together. Although a lot of the activities they organize are for fun and to give students a break from everyday schoolwork, many of the events and activities have made a real difference in people's lives.

“I believe StuCo has breathed a new life into the NGC,” said Bayse “Students and staff have been so excited about all the events and activities we have been able to implement this year. Students have stepped up to serve in big ways, and I have been really impressed with the level of positive leadership amongst those who have chosen to serve on the council.”

While the end of the year is closing in, the Ninth Grade Center still has a few activities planned to celebrate staff and get students excited about next year.
