The Frenship Girls Golf Teams had a hole-in-one performance at the District 2 6-A Championship this past week. The Frenship Blue Girls Golf Team won the District Championship by firing a 327 for the win with 26 shots over 2nd place Midland Legacy.   

Dayna Keeling shot 78 to lead the Tigers on the final day. Other scores were Kenley Baker 82, Kara Knight 83, Melanie Jones 84 and Brylee Kinman 90. 

Head Girls Golf Coach, Roger Whipkey could not be more proud of the Tigers.  

 "I am so proud of these girls. They have been working so hard all year and that practice definitely paid off because we played our best golf of the year in this tournament.  Odessa Country Club is a tough course with very tough greens, and we putted lights out,” said Coach Whipkey.  

Up next for the Frenship Blue Girls Golf Team is the Regional Tournament later this month. Coach Whipkey has a strong feeling that the Tigers have what it takes to win.  

“Next, we are off to the Regional Tournament in Grand Prairie, and we are going to have to really play well to have a chance to advance to State,” said Coach Whipkey. “I love how these girls compete with a lot of heart and confidence because they have put the work in. Now we will just need to go out and trust our swing and play like we don't have anything to lose.  We play our best golf when we are relaxed and confident." 

At the District 2 6-A Championship, the Frenship Gold team also had a strong showing finishing in 3rd place behind Midland Legacy by only 4 shots. Peighton Justus led the Gold team with an 82 on the last day. Other scores were Harli Keeton 88, Emilee Jaime and Lauren Flores 89 and Hayden Keeton 94. 

"We are really fortunate that we have a bunch of good golfers on our team.  It is really unusual for a program to have 2 teams that can compete for a District Championship and this year we almost got both of our teams to the Regional Tournament. (Only top 2 teams advance). The gold team was actually in 2nd most of the tournament and Midland Legacy made a great comeback to just nip us at the end, but I couldn't be prouder of those girls,” said Whipkey.  

Individually, the Tigers had 6 players in the top team which automatically makes them All-District. Kara Knight finished 3rd individually, Dayna Keeling finished in 5th place, Peighton Justus in 6th place, Kenley Baker in 7th place, Lauren Flores 8th place and Melanie Jones 10th place. 

“The great part about it is that most of these girls are young and are only scratching their potential.  My job is so easy because all these girls on the team have great attitudes and a willingness to take instruction and just keep getting better and better.  To be honest, I was a little surprised with how well both teams played but I shouldn't have been.  I have been telling them all year that hard work always pays off and it did,” said Coach Whipkey.
