Tiger Tennis Team Serves Up Success in Spring Season Matches

The Tigers had a strong showing at the Midland Tall City Tournament on February 23-24 and the Coppell Breakout on March 1. Assistant Tennis Coach, Shelby May, is excited to watch the Tigers on the court this spring. After their first tournaments she is hopeful for another impactful season.

“It was great to finally get the spring varsity season going. There were several District 2-6A competitors in the tournament. Our Tigers played exceptionally well, especially against district opponents who we will face again in late April,” said Coach May.

According to Coach May, the Tall City Tournament was a chance for the team to evaluate areas of strengths and weaknesses.

“This tournament gave us the opportunity to see our Tigers in action for the first time this season. We were able to see areas we have improved upon since the Fall season and now we can work on what we need to be successful overall this spring.”

Tall City Tournament Results

The boys singles action for Aiden Ireland and Carson Rodriguez included tough matches and strong wins. Ireland started the day off with a hard-fought loss in a ten-point tiebreaker, but turned around and won the next two matches. Rodriguez won his first match of the day, lost the next two matches, and ended the last round of the tournament with a strong tiebreaker win.

For the girls singles, Maizy Adams and Hope Hancock secured enough wins to make it to the main draw where they faced great competition. Hancock had an impressive win over El Paso Coronado. Adams came through with two first round wins before falling in the semi-finals.

The boys doubles action included Preston Lowder and Carson Smith winning their first match, falling short the second match, and then rounding out the tournament with two wins over San Angelo Central. Their scores were: 6-2, 7-5 and 6-4, 6-3 earning them a 5th place finish.

The boys doubles team, Dylan Lambert and Oliver Boyce, lost their first round in a close tiebreaker, but bounced back in the consolation round, earning a 12th place spot.

The mixed doubles team, Lauren McCombs and Joseph McCombs came in 10th place. Frenship’s second mixed doubles team, Myles Groseclose and Emery Murray came in 16th place. Finally, the girls doubles team, Bryleigh Norman and Alyssa Lowder, came in 4th place.

Coppell Breakout Tournament Results

In mixed doubles action, Emery Murray and Myles Groseclose lost the first round, but bounced back winning the consolation finals of B draw. Additionally, the doubles duo made up of Lauren McCombs and Joseph McCombs came in 1st winning the B draw bracket.
