Girls Soccer Takes Down Odessa Permian and Odessa High

It’s no secret that the Tigers are goal getters! The Girls faced Odessa Permian on Friday, February 9, defeating the Permian Panthers 2-0 with goals scored by Lily Stone and Graham Peeples and assists by Zeta McDannels, Amaya Mendoza.

Lauren Denning, Head Girls Soccer Coach could not be more pleased with how the Tigers bounced back and controlled the flow on the field.

“The Permian game was a big one for us. They are always competitive and offer us a strong challenge,” said Coach Denning. “We went down for the first time in District when they scored, but never lost belief that we could come back. We got one goal back quickly and then had another great finish to close out the game. It was important to face adversity, and we were happy with the quick response in dealing with it and coming back stronger.”

The Tigers faced another Odessa team on Tuesday, February 13, with yet another 2-0 shutout victory against Odessa High. The goals scored for the Tigers were both by Zeta McDannels with two assists by Calloway Scott.

After a pep talk during halftime Coach Denning shares that the Girls were able to readjust their mindset and make smart plays.

“The Odessa game was a little more of a struggle for us,” said Coach Denning. “We had a hard time finding a good offensive groove and finding that final pass or shot on goal. We had a good half time talk to change our mindset a little bit and scored 2 minutes into the 2nd half. We didn’t let up on the pressure and got another great finish from Zeta to close out the scoring. We dominated possession but want to continue working on how to make sure we are creating more chances and making those chances count when we can.”

The Tigers currently have an overall record of 10-0-4, and 4-0 for district. Next, the Tigers are facing the San Angelo Central Bobcats on Friday, February 16 at 5:30 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium in San Angelo.

“We are looking forward to a tough game against San Angelo Central. Both teams are undefeated in district so far, so we’re hoping for a win to close out our first half of district play,” said Coach Denning.
