On January 5 and 6, the Tigers Girls Wrestling team competed in the highly competitive Caprock Invitational Tournament. Senior, Lexi Jackson took home 2nd place in the Silver Bracket in her weight class. Four Tigers competed in the Gold Bracket for the first time in school history, Hannah Demel, Kayden Johnson, Juliana Flores and Kenna Neeley. For the Gold Bracket Kayden Johnson received 4th place and Kenna Neeley was awarded 5th place. Aiyana Wright took home 4th place in the Silver Bracket in her weight class as well.

The Boys Wrestling Team competed in the Amarillo Quad Tournament on January 5. The Tigers had a tough fight but fell short. Bundo Ukelegharanya placed 2nd, Aisaiah Lugisse placed 3rd, Ethan Thomas and Calin Christall both placed 4th, Davis Thompson and Matthew Barraza both placed 5th, and Matthew Key placed 6th.

Assistant Wrestling Coach, Anna Williams is proud of how the athletes competed after having time off. The Tiger Wrestling Team is continuing to practice and prepare for the  District meets right around the corner.

“I am proud that even with a week off, our athletes came back ready to work. It showed on the mat a lot of them worked out to stay in shape so that was really exciting to see. This past weekend was our first matches back since before Christmas. It went better than expected with room to still improve before Districts in three weeks,” said Coach Williams.

District starts on February 3, and the Tigers could not be more excited.

“The team is very excited for Districts. The girls are shooting for a three-peat having already won it back-to-back. The guys are aiming to take home their first District championship,” said Coach Williams. “I believe if our athletes continue to work hard during practice and strive for greatness on the mat, the goals of winning District for both teams can be our reality in the near future.”

Up next, the Tigers are competing in the Hereford Invitational Tournament on January 12-13. For additional information on the Frenship Tiger Wrestling Team, CLICK HERE
