The Westerner Marching Festival is a local marching festival hosted by the Lubbock High School Band Boosters. This festival allows all the marching bands in the area to experience marching in the same stadium where the UIL Region Marching Contest will be held. 

This allows students to become familiar with the venue, contest flow, warm-up procedures, and what it feels like to perform in front of a contest crowd prior to UIL. 

This year, 43 bands across 1A to 6A attended the Marching Festival at PlainsCapital Park to compete. At the festival there were five judges, who observed a single performance by each band. Three of them judged the bands marching and music, one judged percussion, and one judged the color guard performance. 

“Our students had a very confident performance of our show,” stated Scott Carter, Director of Bands at Frenship High School. “They continue to refine production and find new ways to improve. We appreciate the opportunity to perform at a festival like this as we prepare for the UIL Region Marching Contest.”  

The Frenship Marching Band gave an excellent performance of their 2023 marching production entitled “KEYS”. The production is based on the famous classical piano works of Beethoven, Mozart, Pachelbel, and Strauss.  At the end of the festival, the Tiger Band brought home three awards.
