Frenship Tiger Football Continue to Dominate this Season

Last Friday, the Tigers traveled to Rio Rancho, New Mexico to face the Cleveland Storm. The Tiger’s goal was to play a complete game and focus on strengthening every position. Head Coach Jay Northcutt is happy with the shutout game performance.

“We’ve been talking about coming out and playing a complete game. That was our main focus. I thought our kids came out and did exactly that,” said Coach Northcutt. “I thought offensively we started out fast and just kept going. Defensively we played great all night, stopping the runs. It was a great game; anytime you can hold a team with no points, that is a great night.”

This year there are a lot of new faces to Varsity and, although there have been some learning curves, the team has unified together to become better.

“Coming into this year we had a lot of guys playing in some new spots. We have a lot of guys who are in the varsity setting for the first time. We went through a couple of bumps along the way and had some people get back healthy for the season. I think we’re going to continue to build upon the success we’re having,” said Coach Northcutt.

After scoring 21-points in the first quarter, the coaches had the opportunity to rotate several players in the game. In the second half this gave the Tigers a chance to really showcase all of their talent.

“At half time we talked about how great teams are going to come out and do their jobs and they're going to stay even keeled,” said Coach Northcutt. “I thought that we came out and did that. We came out and continued to score and move the ball. I thought we did a really great job finishing.”

This is an open week for the Tigers, and they are not letting the time slip away. By putting in hard practices and preparing for the upcoming games, they plan to be ready for district play.

“It’s open, but it's not off. We really have to use this week as two-fold, one to recuperate a little bit and at the same time use it to continue to get better. We’re having practices and forming a game plan for Midland Legacy. We have two weeks to prepare for them, and it's our goal to use it wisely,” said Coach Northcutt.
