Frenship Tiger Football Starts Season Strong with Win over Coronado

It’s been 365 days since the Tigers last played the Coronado Mustangs. Over the last year they’ve become stronger and more confident.

This year it's the team's goal to have 50 total turnovers. Last year the goal was 40 turnovers.

Frenship Head Football Coach, Jay Northcutt shares that after Friday’s game they are on a good start to reaching their goal.

“50 turnovers is a pretty tall order, but I think it was a good bar for us to raise it from 40 to 50. We got up to a good start tonight in reaching that goal,” said Coach Northcutt. “It was a good win.”

The Tigers had a total of three turnovers against the Mustangs along with blocking two extra points, stopping a 2-point conversion, and recovering an onside kick.

In addition to raising the bar for turnovers, another goal of the team is to focus on the take-aways from every game. Northcutt believes in focusing on what lessons can be learned and how to grow from them for the next game.

“There is no substitute for experience. One message to our team this week is shame on us if we have to come into this game and learn the same lessons from last time,” said Northcutt.

Last year the Tigers fell short to Coronado, so Friday's win definitely adds momentum to the start of the season.

“You learn lessons in every game, it was clear that we bought into that mindset, and I think that is what brought us to this win,” said Northcutt.

Up next, on Friday, September 1, the Tigers face Lubbock-Cooper in the Crosstown Showdown at Peoples Bank Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.
