Frenship Tennis Starts Spring Season Strong

Midland Tall City Tournament – February 17-18

The varsity season opened at the Midland Tall City tournament hosted by Midland Legacy High School.

Maizy Adams got off to a strong start by placing 5th in Girls Singles with a 4-2, 4-1 win over San Angelo Central. Mackenzie West also played Girls Singles competing in many close matches and winning 6-3, 6-0 over district opponent Odessa Permian.

In Boys Singles action, Aiden Irelan played four tough matches after a 1st round loss to come back and win the consolation finals. Additionally in Boys Singles, Preston Lowder won three of his five matches winning the last one in a seven-point breaker 7-2.

In Doubles action, the boys tandem of Caleb Lambert and Carson Smith bounced back from a first-round loss to win four straight rounds to win the consolation finals against district opponent San Angelo Central winning 6-3, 6-1.

Also in Boys Doubles action, the combination of Oliver Boyce and Brent Postar teamed up for the tournament and had some great matches, several going to third set tiebreakers and a good win in the 1st round setting the team up for some great competition.

The Girls Doubles pairing of Allison Lent and Lauren McCombs won three of the five matches they played, especially when winning their 4th overall match in an exciting fashion with a 10-7 close tiebreaker win over Lubbock High. Also in Girls Doubles, Kiera Wiles and Katelyn Oakes teamed up and won two of the five matches played, including a win over a district opponent Midland Legacy.

In Mixed Doubles, the pairing of Hope Hancock and Dylan Lambert would also battle back from a tough first round loss and win four straight rounds to win the mixed bracket consolation finals in a tiebreaker. Myles Grosclose and Shelby Miller teamed up in Mixed Doubles with some good match play as well.

Keller Central Invitational – February 24

The Keller tournament was a great tournament for Tiger Tennis with student athletes medaling in Girls Singles, Boys Singles, Girls Doubles, Boys Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.

Junior Maizy Adams also had another strong tournament, this time winning the Girls Singles A bracket championship with notable wins over Timber-Creek, and Coppell on her way to the finals. In the championship match, Maizy would win in an exciting tiebreaker fashion once again over Coppell 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Mackenzie West won 3rd place in the Girls Singles B bracket with a 3rd set tiebreak win over Keller Central with the final score of 6-3 4-6, 10-7.

Freshman Preston Lowder won the Boys Singles B championship match 6-1, 6-1 over Birdville. He had other notable wins over Martin High and Palo Duro on his way to the finals. Freshman Aiden Irelan won the consolation bracket in Boys Singles play.

In the Mixed C draw, Mixed Doubles combination of Freshman Joseph McCombs and Senior Bryleigh Rushing won consolation 6-1, 6-4 over Caprock. Also in Mixed Doubles, partners Dylan Lambert and Hope Hancock played several great matches going 1-2 over the weekend.

The junior and senior duo of Carson Smith and Caleb Lambert won 3rd place in the Boys A division bracket, winning 6-2, 6- 2 over Keller Central. Senior Brent Postar and Junior Oliver Boyce also had a great performance winning the Boys B division bracket championship.

In Girls Doubles action, the duo of senior Allison Lent and Lauren McCombs placed 4th and the team of Keira Wiles and Freshman Katelyn Oakes placed 2nd.
