Returning Home 40 Years Later: Celebrating the FHS Class of 1982

Classmates have been planning the two-day Homecoming celebration for more than a year, and after combing through social media, obituaries, and legal records, organizers were able to find 85 of the 96 students who graduated in 1982. Of the 96 graduates, 21 of the students attended first grade to senior year together.

“This process has been long and arduous. We started organizing this in the summer of 2021,” said 1982 FHS graduate Jon Drake. “We had a 10 and 20-year reunion but not a 30-year reunion, so excitement is up for the 40th. Plus, we are all getting older and realize the importance of time and relationships.”

The celebrations kick off on September 9 with alumni attending the Frenship High School pep rally, the Homecoming Tailgate, the football game vs Lubbock Monterey, and wrapping up with an after game get together at the Atrium at Jerry’s in Wolfforth. On Saturday, September 10, they plan to keep the celebrations going with a tour of their old high school, the building that currently serves as Frenship Middle School. The festivities will close with a Saturday night Reunion Reception at the Lubbock Country Club.

Drake anticipates about 50 to 60 of his classmates with their spouses will attend Friday’s Homecoming football game. They have also invited alumni from the classes of 1980, 1981, 1983, and 1984 to attend their events, and they’re expecting approximately 100 guests at Saturday’s reception.

“I’m looking forward to finally seeing everyone and having it all come together,” Drake said. “I am looking forward to memories, laughter, a few drinks, and reconnecting with people so important in our lives.”

As a proud Frenship graduate, Drake says he and his classmates are excited to come home and reminisce about their days as Frenship Tigers. “Frenship is a special place because of the closeness of community and families in the district. Many of my classmates remember fondly brothers and sisters of ours that went to Frenship before and after us,” said Drake.
