Frenship High School Varsity Pom Captain One of 200 Dancers to Perform at TDEA

Prather has a passion for dancing and being an active member of the Frenship Varsity Pom Squad, which she has been a member of every year of her high school career.

Abby was voted Team Captain for the 2021-2022 season and her dedication to the dance program at Frenship High School as well as her position as Captain, led to her selection as the Frenship High School representative at the 2022 Texas Dance Educators Association Convention.

Around 200 talented dancers from around the state came together to learn from celebrity choreographers and take master classes at the TDEA convention. This group of All-State dancers are the leaders of their drill teams, dance teams, pom squads and come from a variety of backgrounds and cities.

"We select our varsity captain each year to attend and represent as our All-State candidate because they reflect leadership, preparedness, and are the leaders of the pom program," said Frenship Varsity Pom Coach Melissa Oakeley. "All-State dancers usually represent as the leaders of their dance teams, so to have the chance to dance alongside 200 talented dance leaders is an incredible experience. It is a great opportunity to get them in a setting that is closest to a college dance experience before they head off into the next chapter."

Prather has been part of the FHS Varsity Pom Squad for her entire high school career, and Oakeley said it's because of her laser focus and drive.

"Peyton has the best work ethic I have ever witnessed in a student," Oakeley said. "She has extremely high expectations for herself and is always doing whatever it takes to excel. She has been such an incredible captain this year. She leads by example in preparedness, positivity and excellence and her team really looks up to her leadership. Peyton aspires to dance collegiately and I have no doubt that she will make her college dance team of choice. She is as talented as she is hardworking."
