Frenship Volleyball Celebrates Senior Night with a Big Win Over San Angelo Central

In the match against Abilene High on Friday, October 15, the team was determined to make quick work of the Eagles.

Frenship Tiger Head Volleyball Coach Toree Winchell said it was a good night for her team that helped build team confidence as they close out district play.

“Abilene was a great game for us as a team,” Winchell said. “We came out strong early, and really kept control of the whole match.”

Winchell said she saw some promise in a few of her younger players.

“Our sophomore setter Gwyn Page did a great job of getting in and taking over our offense,” Winchell said. “She had 8 assists on the night, and I thought she did a great job staying calm under pressure.”

The Tigers went on to secure the win in only three sets (25-10, 25-18, 25-14).

On Tuesday, October 19, the Tigers celebrated Senior Night, honoring the five Frenship Volleyball seniors in their final District match at home this season. Seniors include Maddie Brouillette, SouthernAnn Cox, Addison McClure, Taylor Boyd, and Devyn Nairn.

“This group of seniors have navigated a ton throughout their four years in the volleyball program, both individually and collectively,” Winchell said. “To reach this point shows so much heart and dedication. They have given so much to the program over the years, and I am grateful for this group that has taught me so much this season!”

The match started with a dominating first set (25-10), but by the second set the Tigers seemed fatigued, falling to San Angelo (15-25). In the third set the Tigers turned the heat back up winning by nine (25-16). It all came down to the fourth set where the Tigers pulled out the win in the last few minutes of the game (25-21).

“Taylor Boyd and Lexi Moore really stepped up in our match against San Angelo Central,” Winchell said.  “Moore had 15 kills and 2 blocks, and Boyd had 9 kills and 1 block, but more than just the numbers was the energy that their plays gave us. Lexi even showed off her soccer skills with a kick save that was amazing! You could really tell that Taylor was giving her all for her last night playing in the Pit. It was really special to see.”

The Tigers will take the night off on Friday but will be back in action on Tuesday, October 26 for their final District 2-6A match in Odessa against the Odessa Permian Panthers.
