Earlier this week, several members of the Frenship administration helped pass out food boxes to those in need alongside the South Plains Food Bank and the United Methodist Church of Wolfforth.

According to the U.S. hunger relief organization, Feeding America, more than 15-percent of people in the West Texas area go hungry every day, and of that, 20-percent are children.

With the effects of the pandemic lingering, the South Plains Food Bank set up mobile pop-up pantries across the area. These pantries are designed so that anyone can drive up, pop their trunk, and drive away with a pantry full of food.

Frenship Police Chief Roy Bassett helped pass out food and he said it was such a privilege to help the South Plains Food Bank and to serve the community with other Frenship staff.

“It’s important to remember that Frenship is a part of this community as a whole, not just the students and families that pass through our halls and classrooms,” Bassett said. “It’s doubly nice when we see that some of the ones we served are members of our own Frenship family, some of whom were getting food boxes for other families that they know are in need.”

Bassett said he believes things like this are the definition of living the Frenship way – serving our schools and community by smiling, engaging, respecting, volunteering, and encouraging.

Frenship Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Rhonda Dillard said that opportunities to serve like this are so rewarding.

“We were able to unite with Wolfforth United Methodist Church and the South Plains Foodbank to provide food boxes to those in need,” Dillard said. “I feel that by serving our community we are representing all aspects of the Frenship SERVE model, and it is so much fun to join with others in the common goal of ensuring that the people in our community feel supported and valued. Hunger is a true issue across our community and by providing food boxes we can ensure that less people go to bed at night hungry.”

Frenship ISD will also be serving Curbside Meals on Monday, March 15, along with Aramark. These meals are available for free to any child 18 years old and younger. The boxes will include seven meals to assist with hunger during Spring Break. Click here for more information!
