Frenship Boys Basketball Rolls Competition in Playoffs, Heading to Regional Quarterfinals

The Tigers played the El Paso Franklin Cougars to claim the Bi-District title. They started the game off strong when TJ Miller quickly banked a three-point shot. They volleyed the lead back and forth with the Cougars throughout the first half but ended the second quarter on a high note with a fast-break by Jeb Smallwood that resulted in two points to further solidify the lead.

In the third, the Tigers started out ahead when TJ Miller banked another three-point shot to bring the Tigers 36-24. The boys kept their lead strong when Tracy Godfrey brought the score to 51-36 with an impressive fast-break and dunk.

The Tigers went on to demolish the Cougars in the first round of post season play, 71-36.

On Wednesday, February 24, the Tigers played in the 6A Area match up against the V.R. Eaton Eagles in Anson. The game started off strong with a steal early on by Jeb Smallwood that resulted in three points for the Tigers. The Eagles took the lead early to get a nine-point jump on the Tigers, but Frenship was ready to fight back.

Jeb Smallwood began to close the gap with an impressive fade away three-pointer early in the second quarter, followed quickly by a steal from Tracy Godfrey and two points from Smallwood. The Eagles proved to be a tough opponent as the Tigers began the second half down 27-26.

Tate Beeles, scoring seven points, and TJ Miller scoring six, boosted the team early in the third quarter. As the team worked to hold the Eagles, Jeb Smallwood proved to be the go-to scorer in the fourth quarter, scoring seven points to help the Tigers take home the victory, 62-53.

The Tigers will be back on the court for the Regional Quarterfinals on Saturday, February 27 at 2:00 p.m. as they face off against El Paso Americas at Andrews High School.
