This New Frenship High School Cheer Squad is Truly the Heart of Frenship

Kayci Smith, FHS cheer sponsor, had the idea to create The Heart of Frenship a few years ago when she taught at Frenship Middle School. She said while at FMS, she created a Special Olympics cheer team and that she has always wanted to continue that at FHS.

Smith said the girls are excited to be a part of The Heart of Frenship and the girls will be performing at the Homecoming pep rally on Friday.

“They got to cheer at the Lubbock-Cooper pep rally and are getting to do their own chant at the Homecoming pep rally,” Smith said. “Our goal is to get to do more and be at games soon.”

Smith said that the girls are ready to show what they have been working on at the Homecoming pep rally. She said they have been working hard and practicing a few times per week to prepare.

“They are thrilled,” Smith explained. “They love practicing, and they love being a part of the pep rallies. They especially love putting on their uniforms and shaking their poms. They will be performing their very own chant on Friday. They have been practicing for a couple weeks and are very proud of it.”

Smith said that she and the girls have a supportive group of helpers that have made The Heart of Frenship possible this year. She said that with this group she knows that this group of cheerleaders will grow each year from now on.

“We have nine girls on the team,” Smith said. “I am blessed to have Deb Hardy and Lafawanda Kubacak as the other Special Education teachers that are helping us. We have one of our senior girls, Alaina Golightly, who practices with us and helps the girls at all their performances and events.”
