In 2019, the Tigers took the Bulldogs down 33-0 at People’s Bank Stadium on Homecoming to earn the first District 2-6A win of the Jay Northcutt era. While Midland High returns multiple starters from their 2019 team, they continue to struggle as they enter the meat grinder of the Little Southwest Conference. They’ll be facing a Frenship Tiger team looking to get back to .500 on the season and make a statement in their first district game.
The Tigers fell 14-20 to the Lubbock-Cooper Pirates at Jones AT&T Stadium on Friday, October 9. The Pirates jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the second quarter but the Tigers answered on a 32-yard touchdown scamper by junior quarterback Chad Pharies. Cooper tacked on another field goal to go into halftime with a 20-7 lead.
Second half adjustments by the Tigers held the Pirates scoreless the rest of the way. Senior running back William Bayouth pulled the Tigers within six with a 3-yard touchdown run in the fourth. To add to the intense atmosphere in the first meeting between the two schools in a neutral site, the Tigers held the Pirates on fourth down in Frenship’s red zone but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity leaving the final score 14-20.
The Tigers’ match with the Bulldogs will be available live from Grande Communications Stadium on Double T 97.3 FM and Frenship.TV with Keith Patrick and Chois Woodman on the call. Fans can click HERE for more information how to watch Frenship.TV on their smart device or TV.
