While only in her second year at Frenship High School, her nomination is a clear indication of how she is already making a big impact on her students.
“I was honestly in shock. I’ve never been the one to receive this type of recognition before, so it all took me by surprise,” said Thomas. “Once I let it sink in, I was in awe. The fact that the students, parents, and my amazing colleagues see the amount of heart I put into these kids’ lifelong success really means so much to me.”
Thomas teaches all levels of American Sign Language and is proud to have three-fourths of her graduates from last year continuing their education in ASL. Thomas is also the Academic Decathlon coach and for the second year in a row, they will compete at the state level.
“I love being able to form lifelong bonds with my students,” said Thomas when asked what she loves about teaching. “I have never had a group of kids who were so supportive and wanted to really get to know their teachers.”
During a live interview on KLBK’s Trends and Friends show, Thomas was recognized as the Teacher of the Week for her dedication to teaching and was given an award by the sponsor, Hilliard Office Solutions.
