Twenty Frenship Students Recognized for Outstanding Achievements

National Hispanic Scholars

FHS seniors Joshua Salisbury and Marcos Urias received National Hispanic Recognition for their performance on the PSAT exam.

Both students were eligible to apply to the National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) because they scored in the top 2.5% of Hispanic and Latino PSAT/NMSQT test-takers in our region. Their applications were evaluated, and they both have been invited to participate in the NHRP. This is considered an academic honor that can be included in college applications. Colleges use this recognition to identify academically exceptional students.

All-State Band

FHS band members Camden Smith and Quinten Bruce earned chairs in the 2020 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State Band during their Area auditions in January. Both are second-time All-State Band members. These two students represented Frenship in the TMEA Treble All-State Band concert during the state convention on Saturday, February 15 in San Antonio.

Additionally, the following four students were first Alternates for the 2020 All-State Band from Area A.

Jaron McClendon – Senior, bass trombone

Kenzie Greenlee – Senior, flute

Viviann Robles – Senior, Bb clarinet

Kia Langehenning – Junior, trombone

Selection as a member of the Texas All-State Band is the highest honor a Texas high school band student can receive. Less than two percent of more than 64,000 students are selected to be members of this elite ensemble.

All-State Choir

FHS choir students Hayleigh Stephens, Lynnli Wiseman, and Mark Dannemiller earned a chair in the 2020 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State Choir during the Area auditions in January.

Only the top 2.4% of musicians who initially audition become All-State musicians. The three FHS students who earned this honor will perform in San Antonio in February. Hayleigh will perform with the Mixed Choir, Lynnli with the Treble Choir, and Mark with the Tenor Bass Choir. These students were chosen for this prestigious honor through a competitive process held this year across the state at District, Region, Pre-Area, and Area levels.

This is Hayleigh Stephens's third time to perform as a member of a TMEA All-State organization. This is Lynnli Wiseman and Mark Dannemiller’s first time performing as an All-State Choir member.

These students will join more than 29,000 people from Texas and around the world to attend more than 300 workshops, 100 performances, and visit over 1,400 exhibit booths at this nation’s largest music educator’s convention.

Esports State Championship

Three FHS students  Christian Hansen, Atticus Henry, and Nathaniel Martinez competed in the Esports State Championship in the District's inaugural year with the program. FHS offered a watch party for fans to engage in the live-streamed event. The crowd, both in person and online, watched as the Frenship eSports competitors fought hard, but placed second in the final competition.

Frenship ISD launched the eSports program in the fall of 2019 and selected 30 athletes to compete in league competition. The program is overseen by the District's Chief Technology Officer with the campus principal and coaches at Frenship High School.

Esports Coordinator: Joe Barnett, CTO
FHS Principal: Greg Hernandez
FHS Coach: Nicholas Copeland

eSports games focus on skills that are required in traditional high school sports, such as offensive and defensive strategy, dexterity, critical thinking, and teamwork. College scholarships are available to those who participate in the program.
