FHS CTE Programs Visit Crestview Elementary for College and Career Week

Crestview Elementary celebrated college and career week last week to expose students to the many opportunities that their future holds. Students dressed up each day to a new theme and had group discussions about college and what higher education can provide.

CTEStudents were also shown videos on different careers that are offered through the Career and Technical Education programs once they get to Frenship High School.

"We tend to focus on colleges throughout different lessons taught during the week," said Counselor Piper Seawright. "We thought we should also inform our students about different career options that were available to them and show them how the 'big kids' at the high school are part of those career fields."

They focused on five different areas and interviewed students from the Engineering, Culinary, Agriculture, Animation and Media, and the Health Science departments. Each department had three students speak about their programs and what they do in class.

The CTE students were interviewed by Mrs. Seawright on the morning announcements at Crestview. They were asked about their goals for the future, the advantages of the program they were in and asked to give advice to someone interested in the same career path.

CTE"Our students were so excited to hear about these classes that were offered at the high school level," said Seawright. "It really got the students talking about future career choices, and a few of them even went home talking about the different programs. It was a great way to connect what our students are learning in the classroom and how it can help them in the future."

CTE Coordinator, Amy Baker, said collaborating with the elementary schools helps younger students understand what their goals can look like for the future.

"It’s so fun to help expose our younger students to all of the exciting careers and opportunities available to them as they get older," Baker said. "Part of the Frenship experience is helping kids understand all the options and classes they have to choose from when setting goals for their future. Career and Technical Education (CTE) students love what they do! Sharing this love with others as a mentor and role model is critically important to the long term success of our district."
