Tiger Baseball Goes Undefeated at Midland Tournament

It was a perfect weekend of baseball for Frenship at the Midland Tournament of Champions last weekend. Here’s a recap of the Tiger’s undefeated march through the tourney:

FRENSHIP 5, TASCOSA 3 (Thursday): Colton Brown pitched a complete game with five strikeouts, and the Tiger bats put together a four-run third inning that led to a 5-3 win against Tascosa. In the third inning, Jacob Gutierrez laced a two-run single to tie the game at three. Riley Robinson and Peyten Kennard followed with RBIs in the frame. Kennard and Caeden Jenkins each had two hits to lead the Tiger offense. Kennard also added an amazing catch while falling into the Tascosa dugout for the game’s final out. The Tiger win also counted as a District 2-6A game and victory.

FRENSHIP 4, EL PASO AMERICAS 2 (Friday): The Tigers scored all four runs in the second inning and held off Americas 4-2. FHS scored runs thanks to a single by Tristan Laughlin, a triple by Caeden Jenkins and a single by Brennan McFarland. Austin Phillips was the winning pitcher after tabbing six innings of work that included nine strikeouts. Riley Robinson recorded the last three outs to earn the save. McFarland and Phillips had multiple hits to lead the offense.

FRENSHIP 10, LUBBOCK COOPER 8 (Friday): FHS scored four runs in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh to overcome an early 5-run deficit and win 10-8 over Cooper. Brennan McFarland’s RBI single in the seventh gave the Tigers the lead for good. McFarland, Caeden Jenkins, Peyten Kennard and Jacob Gutierrez each collected two hits. Kaeleb Carrillo was the winning pitcher after four great innings of relief work.

FRENSHIP 9, LUBBOCK HIGH 0 (Saturday): Luis Nevarez pitched a complete game one-hit shutout as FHS beat Lubbock 9-0. His day included six strikeouts. Lubbock’s lone hit was a single in the sixth inning. The Tiger offense generated 14 hits on the day led by Evan Johnson’s three-hit performance. FHS put up six runs in the fourth inning thanks to RBIs from Tristan Laughlin, Colton Brown, Christian Kiser, Brennan McFarland and Jacob Gutierrez.

FRENSHIP 5, EL PASO MONTWOOD 1 (Saturday): It took one extra inning, but FHS finished off a perfect weekend with four runs in the eighth inning to beat Montwood 5-1. Colton Brown’s RBI single was the hit that finally broke the 1-1 tie. Peyten Kennard was 3-4 in the game and Austin Phillips added two hits. Josh Akers was the winning pitcher after working seven innings of three-hit ball with 4 strikeouts.
